We helped transform a dated concrete shopping precinct into a diverse, green, civic space with a strong identity the community could be proud of.

The Plaza, at Lane Cove village is the heart of this Sydney North Shore community. But despite its prominence, many saw the precinct as little more than a car park and collection of disparate retail outlets.

With a vision to retain the village feel, while updating the experience to create a stronger sense of place, we helped Lane Cove Council introduce a new village green and natural solutions, supporting the re-imaging of The Plaza as The Canopy.

From convenience precinct to destination

The highlight of The Canopy is the open Village Green, creating a tranquil backdrop for visitors, a stage for performance and entryway to an engaging play space for kids. Continuing the connection to nature below ground, we designed and installed a large green wall that leads down into the shopping plaza. It’s 608 plants across just 19m2 contribute to cleaner air, cooler temperatures, noise reduction, and biophilic and biodiversity benefits.

Our work helped Lane Cove Council create an award-winning precinct that’s reignited community connection, while inspiring new visitors to come and experience the area.
