      Waterloo, NSW — Gadigal land

      Story

A tropical environment in the heart of Sydney.

      Southern hemisphere’s highest man-made waterfall.

Wide-ranging environmental benefits, including urban heat and carbon reduction.

With a vision to bring thriving nature

With a vision to bring thriving nature to the heart of Sydney, Crown Group invited us to join the ambitious Waterfall project team.

In the industrial suburb of Waterloo, Crown, architects SJB and Taylor Brammer were designing a standout residential development. Taking its cues from natural stone, the form of the facade was to be like sculpted rock, and carving its path through to the central courtyard, a 22 metre high waterfall, tumbling into a lagoon.

As consultants on the project, our challenge was to design, build and install a series of green walls the brought the idea to life, including one that would work alongside a cascading waterfall, something that had never been done before.

Applying the principles of biophilic design to the whole development, we rose to the challenge.

      Consulting

Junglefy was engaged with Crown Group to provide consultancy on the initial design of the waterfall green wall. Incorporating a green wall within a waterfall had not been done before so early collaboration in the design development phase helped to refine the concept and bring the idea to life.

      Delivering

Once the final design was confirmed, Junglefy’s specialised construction team created four bespoke green walls that can be controlled independently to cater for variances in wind conditions and achieve the best outcome for the garden.

“Waterfall is probably the best urban resort we have ever created. It’s architecture that engages the heart and spirit of a person.”
